This repository contains Docker images for the VPL Jail System⁠, which is part of the Virtual Programming Lab for Moodle⁠.

⁠Repository Name Format

The repository name format follows the structure: jail-distribution-install level, where:

• Jail: Refers to the VPL Jail System⁠.
• Distribution: Specifies the Linux distribution used as the base for the image. This can be Alpine⁠, Ubuntu⁠, Debian⁠, Fedora⁠, etc.
• Install Level: Indicates the installation level of the VPL Jail Server. The values can be minimum, basic, standard, or full. The minimum level includes only the essential software needed to install the system, while full includes all the development software installed automatically without human intervention.

⁠Tagging Convention

The tags used in this repository represent the version of the VPL Jail System⁠ used in the image build. Note that the Linux base distribution version is the latest available at the time of the build and is not related to the tag.

⁠Default Build Options

The default build options include the following settings:

• VPL_JAIL_PORT=80
• VPL_JAIL_SECURE_PORT=443
• VPL_JAIL_JAILPATH=/
• VPL_CERTIFICATES_DIR=/etc/vpl/ssl
• VPL_JAIL_SSL_CERT_FILE=/etc/vpl/ssl/fullchain.pem
• VPL_JAIL_SSL_KEY_FILE=/etc/vpl/ssl/privkey.pem

⁠Creating the Container

To disable HTTPS set VPL_JAIL_SECURE_PORT=0. Otherwise, you must provide the SSL public and private certificate files to the container by setting fullchain.pem and privkey.pem in the volume /etc/vpl/ssl. You can use the docker cp command to upload the certificates to your container. Other important parameters are VPL_JAIL_URLPATH=/yoursecret and VPL_JAIL_TASK_ONLY_FROM=your_Moodle_IP.

Example of a container with HTTPS using Ubuntu full:
