⁠Creating Docker Image outside of git (faculty only)

1. Set up a directory with a Dockerfile and a requirements.txt file
2. Build the image: docker build -t nlp .
3. Tag the image: docker tag nlp jmedero/nlp:fall2018
4. Push the image: docker push jmedero/nlp:fall2018

⁠Updating our Docker Image with GitHub

1. Clone the Docker repo.
2. Make changes.
3. Image will automatically re-build on every push to master.

⁠Use Docker Image (everyone)

1. Install Docker⁠

2. Clone homework assignment and navigate to repo

3. Start docker: docker run -it -h docker -p 127.0.0.1:5000:5000 -v `pwd`:/home/appuser jmedero/nlp:fall2018 bash

   1. -h docker: sets hostname of container to docker
   2. -p 127.0.0.1:5000:5000: binds container port 5000 to localhost 5000
   3. -v \`pwd\`:/home/appuser: puts the current directory into /home/appuser

⁠Note for Windows:

On Windows: be sure to select that the C drive should be shared with Docker images. Then, create a folder that you want to use as the local storage location for Docker. In the example below, I've chosen C:/Users/richardw/Documents/fs/. Then, replace (3) above with the following:

1. Start docker: docker run -it -h docker -p 127.0.0.1:5000:5000 -v C:/Users/richardw/Documents/fs:/home/appuser jmedero/nlp:fall2018 bash

• Starts image as "appuser" instead of "root"
• Took out "-v $HOME/.gitconfig:/home/appuser/.gitconfig" as this doesn't seem to work
