Description: This custom Docker repository contains a pre-configured Kafdrop image that provides a user-friendly web-based UI to interact with Kafka clusters. Kafdrop is built with Java 17 and allows clients to easily monitor, explore, and manage Kafka topics and messages visually. The default value for the KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT environment variable is set to localhost:9092, enabling clients to quickly use the image with a locally running Kafka broker. However, clients have the flexibility to customize the KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT environment variable to connect to their specific Kafka broker server.
Usage with Docker:
To use the Kafdrop image from this custom Docker repository, you can run the following command:
docker run -d -p 9000:9000 -e KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT=your_kafka_broker:9092 your-docker-repo/kafdrop
Replace your_kafka_broker with the IP address or hostname of your Kafka broker. The -e option sets the KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT environment variable dynamically when running the container, allowing you to connect to your Kafka broker.
Kafdrop will be accessible at http://localhost:9000 in your web browser, and it will be connected to the Kafka broker you specified.
Usage with Docker Compose:
To use the Kafdrop image from this custom Docker repository with Docker Compose, create a docker-compose.yml file with the following content:
yaml version: '3.8' services: kafdrop: image: your-docker-repo/kafdrop ports: - "9000:9000" environment: KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT: "your_kafka_broker:9092"
Replace your_kafka_broker with the IP address or hostname of your Kafka broker. The docker-compose.yml file defines a single service called kafdrop, which uses the Kafdrop image from your custom Docker repository. The ports section maps port 9000 from the container to port 9000 on the host machine, allowing access to Kafdrop at http://localhost:9000 in your web browser.
The environment section sets the KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT environment variable, allowing you to specify the Kafka broker server dynamically when using Docker Compose.
To start the Kafdrop container with Docker Compose, run the following command:
docker-compose up -d
Kafdrop will be accessible at http://localhost:9000 in your web browser, and it will be connected to the Kafka broker you specified.
With this custom Docker repository and its Kafdrop image, clients can easily monitor and manage their Kafka clusters through a user-friendly web interface, with the flexibility to connect to their own Kafka brokers using environment variables.
note: KAFKA_BROKERCONNECT default value is localhost:9092
