Kaliware Eureka Server - Docker Configuration

The kaliware/eureka-server is a Docker image for the Spring Cloud Netflix Eureka Server that provides service registry and discovery capabilities for distributed systems. Below are the configurations and dependencies needed to run the server.

Dependencies

  • Config Server (kaliware/config-server): The eureka-server relies on kaliware/config-server for centralized configuration management. Make sure the config-server is up and running before starting the eureka-server.
  • Network Configuration: Ensure that both the config-server and eureka-server can communicate over the same Docker network.

Configuration Parameters

The following environment variables can be configured for the eureka-server:

  • CONFIG_SERVER_HOST (Required): The URL of the kaliware/config-server. This tells the Eureka Server where to fetch its configuration properties.
  • EUREKA_SERVER_REGISTER_WITH_EUREKA (Default: false): Specifies whether the Eureka Server should register itself with another Eureka Server. Usually set to false for a standalone Eureka instance.
  • EUREKA_SERVER_FETCH_REGISTRY (Default: false): Determines if the Eureka Server should fetch the registry information from other Eureka Servers. Typically false for a standalone server.
  • EUREKA_SERVER_WAIT_TIME (Default: 0): The wait time in milliseconds when the registry is empty. The server will wait for this time before trying to sync the registry again.
  • EUREKA_SERVER_ENABLE_SELF_PRESERVATION (Default: false): Enables or disables self-preservation mode. When enabled, the server retains service instances in the registry even if heartbeat signals are not received, to prevent network disruptions from affecting service availability.
  • EUREKA_SERVER_EVICTION_INTERVAL (Default: 5000): Sets the interval in milliseconds for the eviction process, which removes instances that are no longer responding.
  • JAVA_OPTS (Optional): Java options for configuring memory and other JVM settings.

Steps to Run

  1. Start the Config Server: Make sure the config-server is running and accessible.
  2. Build and Run the Eureka Server.
  3. Access Eureka Dashboard: The Eureka dashboard should be accessible at http://localhost:8761.

With these configurations, the eureka-server will use the config-server for its settings and provide service registry capabilities to other microservices in the architecture.
