karimkanso/snmptrapd repository overview

Lightweight image that contains snmptrapd tuned for use in GNS3 by allowing configuration files to be persistent. snmptrapd allows for TRAPS and INFORMS to be received using v1, v2c and v3 of the SNMP protocol. The default behaviour the the image is to simply print all received messages to stdout.

Forked from sig9 to support GNS3 by adding VOLUME directives that allow for persistent configuration files.

Standard usage:

docker run -it --rm -p 162:162/udp --name snmptrapd karimkanso/snmptrapd

Usage in GNS3:

  1. Import into GNS3 as a new Docker based appliance.
  2. Run image and edit /etc/snmp/snmptrapd.conf to set options.
  3. Stop/start appliance to re-read the config file.

Note: /var/lib/net-snmp/snmptrapd.conf is also persisted. However, if editing this file (e.g. adding user credentials or changing engineid) it requires that it is edited when the image is not running (i.e. the persistent copy in the GNS3 project directory) as it will be overwritten when snmptrapd exits.
