kimdiallo/homebridge repository overview

A Collection of Homebridge Docker-Images for Raspberry Pi

About

Goal is to provide an easy way to run a fast stable and lightweight SmartHome solution based on homebridge.io and docker which allows to control, automate and monitor your home via Siri and Apple HomeKit.

A selection on npmjs.com collected plugins, all packaged in images built and tested on different real physical Raspberry Pi models.

Docker enables you to run one bridge per Plugin. This keeps the configs clear and short, and the makes whole setup very fast and stable, because any errors in one container will not restrict the others.

Required Hardware

  • a Raspberry PI

Required Software

  • A running docker Setup

I recommend to use HypriotOS, a minimal Debian-based operating system optimized for Docker awesomeness with always up-to-date Docker versions and a big amount of BÄÄM<3 read more about it

How to use

Determinate the right image

At first you have to determinate the the required image tag combination. The first part, the image is always the same: kimdiallo/homebridge.

And then the Plugin, its the name of the npm homebridge-plugin without the homebridge-prefix.

Syntax = <image>:<[PLUGIN]>

So if you want to run homebridge-config-ui-x your Tag is: config-ui-x and the whole command to pull the needed image would be:

docker pull kimdiallo/homebridge:config-ui-x
Prepare a root

Just create a dir that you want use as root:

mkdir /opt/homebridge/<plugin>

Place a config.json as described at the respective npm in it. Please take the exact information from the npm-page of the plugin.

Run the image

And run the image with the previously created dir as a volume:

docker run -d - \
  --name homebridge-<plugin> \
  -v /opt/homebridge/<plugin>:/root/ \
  --network host \
  --restart always \
  kimdiallo/homebridge:<tag>
Connect with Homekit

At the first run it is also necessary to scan the qr-code from the log with your iPhone to integrate the bridge in your setup. To display the log just run:

docker logs homebridge-<plugin>
