⁠Install Docker & Docker Compose

  1. Install docker

curl -sSL https://get.docker.com | sh

  1. Add permission to Pi User to run Docker Commands

sudo usermod -aG docker pi

From here you can do one of the following three in order to run the remaining commands (you basically want to pickup the group change for your pi user)

  • reboot
  • logout or start a new shell
  • run the remaining commands with sudo
  1. Test Docker installation

docker run hello-world

  1. Install docker-compose dependencies

sudo apt-get install -y libffi-dev libssl-dev

sudo apt-get install -y python3 python3-pip

sudo apt-get remove python-configparser

  1. Install Docker Compose

sudo pip3 -v install docker-compose

⁠Docker Compose Example

  1. Pull the example docker-compose.yaml⁠ and env⁠ files

  2. update the docker-compose.yaml and update the following

  • update example.com with your domain name.
  • change the 192.168.1.* ip addresses with the ones for your network and host
  1. rename the env file as .env and update the PDNS_API_KEY with api key you want to use

  2. start the services by running docker-compose up -d - this will launch all the services from the docker-compose.yaml file

  3. you can tail the logs by running:

  • to tail the logs from all services - docker-compose logs -f
  • to tail the logs from a specific service

example: to tail the logs for the pdns-server service run docker-compose logs -f pdns-server
