ldmx/pro repository overview

Production Image for ldmx-sw

This image gives a pre-compiled version of ldmx-sw installed on the container. Hopefully, we will soon be able to automatically push containers to this repo when changes are made to ldmx-sw, but in the meantime, below are instructions on how to use this container.

  1. Pull down the latest image: docker pull ldmx/pro
  2. Define a helpful bash alias for running production (or just copy and paste):
alias ldmx-pro='docker run --rm -it -u $(id -u ${USER}):$(id -g ${USER}) -v $(pwd):$(pwd) ldmx/pro $(pwd)'
  1. Run a configuration file: ldmx-pro config.py

Details

This image is derived from the ldmx/dev image and is updated with a more restrictive entrypoint. The development image allows for the user to decide what command to run within the container; here, the command is hard-coded to be fire. This means after mounting your current working directory and entering it (within the container), it runs the ldmx-sw application (within the container) using whatever python configuration or other arguments you provide.

Singularity

Using this container with singularity requires a slight modification to the above procedure. Since singularity mounts the current directory to the container by default and is interactive by default, we don't need as many options. But we do need to download the docker container and convert it to a singularity .sif file. Change myTag to one of the available tags above.

  1. Define the name of this production image
export LDMX_PRODUCTION_IMG=$(pwd -P)/ldmx_production_myTag.sif
  1. Build the singularity image download from docker hub.
singularity build ${LDMX_PRODUCTION_IMG} docker://ldmx/pro:myTag
  1. Define the helper alias
alias ldmx-pro='singularity run --no-home ${LDMX_PRODUCTION_IMG} .'
  1. Run a configuration file
ldmx-pro config.py
