The current version of the gitlab Docker repo 7.14.0 has :sendmail hardcoded as the mail delivery method. Thid update edits config/environments/production.rb to check for the environment variable SMTP_DELIVERY_METHOD before using the default :sendmail method.

Use

Either use -e to set the SMTP_DELIVERY_METHOD variable, or add it to your docker-compose.yml file.

E.g.

gitlab:
  image: sameersbn/gitlab:7.14.0
  links:
    - redis:redisio
    - postgresql:postgresql
  ports:
    - "10080:80"
    - "10022:22"
  environment:
    - SMTP_DELIVERY_METHOD=smtp
  etc...
