This image extends paritytech/ci-unified to include two essential tools for working with Polkadot SDK parachains:

• staging-chain-spec-builder – A utility to generate chain specification files (chain_spec.json) for your parachain, using a WASM runtime blob and configuration parameters.
• polkadot-omni-node – A generic parachain node binary that can run any parachain using a provided chain spec and runtime. Ideal for testing and development without recompiling custom node code.

🔧 Use cases

• Spin up local parachains without compiling a custom node binary.
• Easily generate and manage chain specs for development and testing.
• Automate testnets and CI pipelines using Substrate-based chains.

📦 Base image

This image builds on paritytech/ci-unified, which includes Rust toolchains, common Substrate dependencies, and testing utilities used by Parity’s official CI.

🏁 Getting started

docker run -it lfern70/polkadot-sdk-dev:latest bash

Inside the container:

staging-chain-spec-builder --help
polkadot-omni-node --help
