THE IDEA

The nature is an exceptional and fragile environment. Numerous scientific studies carried out in recent years tend to prove that biodiversity is an essential part of the natural environment.

Numerous local initiatives have emerged to promote the consideration of biodiversity in nature sports, but there was no resource to promote these approaches and communicate in a common way to practitioners so that everyone can take ownership of the issues and knowledge.

There is a real desire to preserve the natural environment among nature sports enthusiasts, but sometimes the lack of information does not allow them to take environmental issues into account.

Finally, more and more people are practicing a leisure activity in nature, and this in a more diffuse way in the environment, over periods and time slots more extended.

THE PROJECT

Biodiv'sports aims to disseminate information on the platforms that list routes in the natural environment concerning the presence of sensitive wild fauna and flora with regard to leisure activities that can be practiced on certain territories.

The project is based above all on local concerted action aimed at taking into account environmental issues in its practice and aims to make these approaches known to all via digital tools.

Each structure that has carried out this type of approach can be asked to enter a sensitive area via the tool developed. This information will be sent via a data flow to client platforms that wish to offer this information to their user community.

The dissemination of this information should allow to create a dialogue with the users, to improve the knowledge and the consideration of the wildlife in its practice.

HOW IT WORKS

This tool is designed to broadcast two types of zones

  • Sensitive areas established beforehand through a consultation process involving the various users of a territory. There is no regulatory framework associated with these sensitive areas. It is a proposal for sharing the space, so that the heritage wildlife keeps its place in the natural environment and that everyone can enjoy the natural environment.
  • Regulatory zones that have an impact on a sport practice set up within the framework of public policies for the protection of the environment.

Each zone is accompanied by a description, a sheet presenting the species and the interactions that each practice can have with this species and a .kml file allowing the integration of this zone in a tracking system.

Find the documentation of the API Biodv'sports.

The zones are also available via the Biodiv'sports widget. This tool also allows to generate an iframe or a url to consult the zones for a given practice, period and zone.

Are associated to this approach: naturalist associations, space managers, communities, platforms listing routes, clubs and federations of sports and individual practitioners.

THE PARTNERS

The tool was developed by the company Makina Corpus and is now maintained by the LPO ensured the coordination of the project with the support of the PNR du Haut-Jura and the Parc des Écrins.

The development of the tool was supported by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the PETZL Foundation and the Isère Department.
