madlabcg/minio repository overview

minio

Multi-arch copy of cgr.dev/chainguard/minio: the MinIO server and the mc client, with pinned version tags.

MinIO no longer publishes images to Docker Hub or quay.io, and Chainguard's free tier only offers latest. This repository copies that image unchanged (same digest, no rebuild) and tags each copy so you can pin it.

  • Platforms: linux/amd64, linux/arm64
  • Runs as a non-root user (65532)

Tags

There are two families of tags: copies of the Chainguard image, published automatically, and MADLAB versions, promoted by hand after a copy has been tested.

TagExampleMoves?Use it for
madlab-<yyyy>.<mm>madlab-2026.09Never (immutable). Approved MADLAB versionProduction and Compose files (recommended)
stable—To the latest approved MADLAB versionEnvironments that follow approved releases
<release>-r<n>RELEASE.2026-09-22T19-25-18Z-r1Never (immutable). Exact copy of ChainguardPinning a copy not promoted yet
<release>RELEASE.2026-09-22T19-25-18ZTo the latest copy of that MinIO releaseInspection
latest—To the latest copy, not yet approvedQuick tests only

MADLAB versions are named after the month they were promoted (madlab-2026.09); later promotions in the same month get .2, .3, …

Chainguard rebuilds its image regularly without changing the MinIO release (base OS patches). Each new upstream build of the same release is published as the next revision; a new MinIO release starts again at -r1.

What's inside

  • minio: the server (entrypoint, /usr/bin/minio)
  • mc: MinIO Client
  • /bin/sh: so the same image can run setup scripts

Usage

docker run -d --name minio \
  -p 9000:9000 -p 9001:9001 \
  -e MINIO_ROOT_USER=admin \
  -e MINIO_ROOT_PASSWORD=change-me \
  -v minio-data:/data \
  madlabcg/minio:madlab-2026.09 \
  server /data --console-address=:9001

Compose healthcheck (there is no curl or wget; mc ships a local alias for localhost:9000):

    healthcheck:
      test: ["CMD", "mc", "ready", "local"]
      interval: 10s
      timeout: 5s
      retries: 5

Run mc from the same image:

docker run --rm --entrypoint /bin/sh madlabcg/minio:madlab-2026.09 \
-c 'mc alias set local http://host.docker.internal:9000 admin change-me && mc ls local'

Differences from the former official image

  • The entrypoint is /usr/bin/minio itself, not a wrapper script, so pass the arguments directly (server /data ...).
  • It runs as user 65532 instead of root. A volume created by the official image is owned by root: change its owner once (chown -R 65532:65532) or start with a new volume.
