malkab/jekyll repository overview

Jekyll Docker Image

Jekyll is a blog-aware static site generator written en Ruby by GitHub co-founder Tom Preston-Werner. Its main advantages are:

  • it's static: no database or complicated setups;
  • Markdown oriented: no WYSIWYG hassle. Blog like a hacker;
  • tight integration with GitHub Pages: no more hosting management, just push to your GitHub Page and GitHub handles the build for you.

Quickstart

Run the docker-exec.sh script to initialize a fresh container. Create a folder to hold the Jekyll site, move into it, and proceed:

jekyll new .

bundle install && jekyll serve -H 0.0.0.0

The Jekyll site will be available at http://localhost:4000. Of course, for something beyond testing, mounting a volume should be mandatory.
