⁠Notes

• The Debian MySQL client package is used here for reliability in a slim base image. If you need Oracle's exact MySQL 8 client packaging, the image can be adjusted to use the Oracle apt repository instead.

⁠Start an interactive shell

docker compose run --rm debugbox

⁠Run a one-off command

docker compose run --rm debugbox kubectl version --client
docker compose run --rm debugbox aws sts get-caller-identity
docker compose run --rm debugbox dig example.com

⁠Mounted credentials and config

The compose file mounts common host config directories read-only when they exist:

• ~/.aws
• ~/.kube
• ~/.config/gcloud

If you also want OCI config mounted, add this volume to docker-compose.yml:

- ${HOME}/.oci:/root/.oci:ro

⁠Run as a pod in Kubernetes

Launch an interactive shell directly in your cluster in the service namespace:

kubectl -n service run debugbox \
  --image=mattiasholmberg/debugbox:latest \
  --restart=Never --rm -it -- bash

Run a one-off command and exit:

kubectl -n service run debugbox \
  --image=mattiasholmberg/debugbox:latest \
  --restart=Never --rm -it -- dig example.com

The --restart=Never --rm flags ensure the pod is deleted automatically when the session ends.
