miimiymew/ubuntu18-opencv repository overview

Overview

OpenCV 4.0 images (built on top of Ubuntu 18.04 base image).

Intended for use as a further base image, without having to re-compile OpenCV.
E.g. FROM miimiymew/ubuntu18-opencv:4.3.0-with-gui

Comes in two flavors:

  • ...-nogui --- Compiled without libgtk2; Using GUI features (e.g. cv.imshow() & cv.waitkey()) would result in error.
  • ...-with-gui --- Compiled with libgtk2 so GUI features are enabled. Has to be linked to local X Server (see below).

Source: https://github.com/Mew-www/dockerfile-ubuntu18-opencv

To test locally on a Linux desktop with X11 (with GUI features)

  • First enable xhost access in local network:
    • sudo xhost local:root
  • Then run container mapped to local network & display:
    • docker run -it --network=host -e DISPLAY=$DISPLAY miimiymew/ubuntu18-opencv:4.3.0-with-gui /bin/bash

For webcam access map the respective device e.g. --device=/dev/video0:/dev/video0 in between other args.

You can revoke xhost access with (note the minus symbol) sudo xhost -local:root

Important note: Since this image is intended as base image (for NodeJS in specific - Python would require compiling with specific params) the only programmatic way to use it is g++ (C++) compiler. Alternatively you can run the image, then install language and libraries of your choice on the resulting container. Using ...-with-gui is recommended for local debugging.
