molgor/postgis_biospytial repository overview

This is a container that has a full Postgis (Postgres 9.1) instance that enables the Biospytial geoprocessing capabilities / endpoint.

It has a script file for initiliazing and loading a Postgis (2.3) database named: biospytial with a super-privileged user named biospytial , password: "biospytial."

You can load the container as a daemon (option -d) or as an interactive session (using bash).

Initialize the Database

If the database has not been initialized, it would be necessary to do so. Run the container under interactive mode using:

For Linux
docker run \
--name=postgis \
--net=biospytial_network \
-it \
--publish=5432:5432 \
--volume=[YOUR MOUNTING PLACE FOR STORING THE DATABSE]:/DataVolumes \
molgor/postgis_biospytial \
/bin/bash
For OSX
docker run \
--name=postgis \
--network=biospytial_network \
-it \
--publish=5432:5432 \
--volume=[YOUR MOUNTING PLACE FOR STORING THE DATABSE]:/DataVolumes \
molgor/postgis_biospytial \
/bin/bash
Notes:
  • You'll need a docker network called: biospytial_network. It can be done with: docker network create biospytial_network
  • You will need to stop other services that are running in your 5432 port (usually local instances of postgres)

Once the container has been loaded, run the file INITIALISATION_NOTES with:

bash INITIALISATION_NOTES

You can also read the content if you need more information, it's a literal script.

Load the Postgis Container as a Daemon

If the database has been initialized already you can load the container as a daemon with the following code:

For Linux
docker run \
--name=postgis \
--net=biospytial_network \
-d \
--publish=5432:5432 \
--volume=[YOUR MOUNTING PLACE FOR STORING THE DATABSE]:/DataVolumes \
molgor/postgis_biospytial \
/bin/sh -c "/root/startPostgres"
For OSX
docker run \
--name=postgis \
--network=biospytial_network \
-d \
--rm \
--publish=5432:5432 \
--volume=[YOUR MOUNTING PLACE FOR STORING THE DATABSE]:/DataVolumes \
molgor/postgis_biospytial \
/bin/sh -c "/root/startPostgres"

The Postgis instance will run in the localhost using the port 5432. I can use pgadmin3 or QGIS to check the connection and structure.

Cheers!

Juan
