noiseline/mariadb repository overview

MariaDB Docker Image

This repository provides a high-performance MariaDB image designed to be minimal, secure, and easy to maintain in containerized environments. By utilizing Alpine Linux as a base, we ensure a tiny footprint and a reduced attack surface.

Quick Start

Pull the image:

docker pull noiseline/mariadb:latest

Run a basic instance:

docker run -d --name mariadb noiseline/mariadb:latest

Features

  • Minimalist: Built on Alpine Linux to keep the image size as small as possible.
  • Ready to Use: Pre-configured with sensible defaults for rapid deployment.
  • Flexible: Easily customizable by mounting your own configuration volumes.
  • Secure: Reduced package overhead to minimize potential vulnerabilities.

Usage

Volumes

To ensure data persistence and custom configuration, use the following mount points:

  • Database data files: /var/lib/mysql
  • Custom configuration directory: /etc/my.cnf.d
Custom Configuration

To apply your own MariaDB settings, mount your local configuration directory to /etc/my.cnf.d/. MariaDB will automatically load any .cnf files found in that location.

Example:

docker run -d --name mariadb \
  -v /path/to/local/config:/etc/my.cnf.d:cached \
  -v /path/to/local/data:/var/lib/mysql:delegated \
  -e MARIADB_ROOT_PASSWORD=your_secure_password \
  noiseline/mariadb:latest

NOTE: Be sure to update the system-tables after updating the image:

docker exec -it mariadb /usr/bin/mariadb-upgrade

Security Best Practices

  • Passwords: Always define a strong MARIADB_ROOT_PASSWORD environment variable.
  • Networking: Do not expose port 3306 to the public internet unless required.
  • Persistence: Always mount a volume to /var/lib/mysql to prevent data loss when the container is updated or recreated.
