What is this?

In revision control systems, a monorepo (syllabic abbreviation of monolithic repository) is a software development strategy where code for many projects are stored in the same repository.
Reasoning
- A synchronized, immutable store for all source
- Promotes source reuse
- Reduces dependency hell by co-locating referenced dependencies in the same codebase
- Allows atomic commits (and global versioning) over multiple projects
- Allows coordinated large-scale, multi-project code refactoring
- Promotes flexible code ownership among multiple teams
Caveats
- The lack of per-project security requires vigilance in certain cases. For instance, secrets (certs, keys, passwords, etc.) must be stored outside the monorepo, possibly using "secret storage."
