⁠Folding@Home

Container with Folding@Home built with podman to ensure it works in rootless mode, works on other container platforms as well since it follows common practice.

⁠Persistent storage

The configuration and folding data resides in /etc/fahclient directory within the container, make sure to create a volume pointing to it if you want it to survive container upgrades and container migrations.

⁠Create

Run this to create a standard container with Folding@Home, replace latest with specific version if you wish to run a certain version.

podman create --publish 7396:7396/tcp \
--volume YourVolumeName:/etc/fahclient:rw \
--name YourContainerName docker.io/osourcese/foldingathome:latest

⁠Configuration

The config.xml file contains the most basic configuration to get the container running.

Recommended is to adjust the <cpus v='1'/> to the amount of CPU:s you want the container to use when folding, this way you do not need to user any CPU parameters when creating the container.

⁠Access

The container comes with the web GUI activated on port 7396 and for the following subnets 10.0.0.0/8 192.168.0.0/16 172.16.0.0/12 169.254.0.0/16, this can be adjusted in the config.xml file any time, but be sure to keep the 127.0.0.1 IP in there.

When entering the GUI on first run it should ask you to configure some settings to configure, set them as you like.

Editing the config.xml directly can be done via your container software, for example.

podman exec -i -t -u 0 <YourContainer> /bin/bash or docker exec -i -t -u 0 <YourContainer> /bin/bash

⁠Versions

The latest will be updated with newest version available whenever possible and named versions will go back max 1 year, older than that will be removed.
