⁠Overwire Runner Image

The execution environment for Overwire⁠, a local workflow workbench. When Overwire runs a workflow step in live mode, the job executes inside a container started from this image. Overwire is compatible with GitHub Actions workflow files and runs your .github/workflows locally.

Overwire pulls this image automatically; you normally don't need to pull it yourself. To pull manually:

docker pull overwireio/runner:ubuntu-24.04

⁠Tags

• ubuntu-24.04 — current image for the Ubuntu 24.04 generation; moves with new builds.
• ubuntu-24.04-v<N> — immutable per-version tags. The version is also stamped into the io.overwire.runner.version label, which the Overwire app uses for compatibility checks.
• latest — alias for the newest build.

⁠Contents and licenses

The image is based on Ubuntu 24.04 and contains unmodified system packages from Ubuntu's official repositories, side-by-side Node.js runtimes from nodejs.org, and common workflow tooling, each under its original license.

• Exact package versions: /opt/overwire/PACKAGES.manifest (inside the image)
• Per-package license texts: /usr/share/doc/<package>/copyright
• Third-party notices and the written GPL source offer: /opt/overwire/NOTICE

Overwire will provide the complete corresponding source for any GPL-licensed component of a published image to any third party, for at least three years from publication of that image, at no charge beyond the cost of performing the distribution: [email protected]⁠.
