⁠growth-circle-base

A docker image suitable for use as a primary container in CircleCI 2.0.

⁠Usage

• make build - build a local instance of the image (defaults to growth-cirlcle-base:latest)
• make run - run a shell inside a temporary container
• make clean - destroy local image and build logs

⁠CI/CD

Any change to master will be picked up and built by docker-hub⁠. You can download/use the most up to date version using ovotech/growth-circle-base:latest. No tag other than latest is created.

⁠Available tools

This image installs and makes available a number of programs and tools. See the Dockerfile⁠ for the full list, which includes, but is not limited to:

• awscli
• nodejs
• python3
• sbt
• terraform
  • ovo-provider
  • kong-provider
• yarn

⁠Custom scripts

A couple of custom scripts are available inside the image and are commonly used across the Acquisition team pipelines.

⁠set_environment

This script is used to grab the subset of env vars for a given environment, and expose them in the current CircleCI job using the correct name. To achieve this the script writes a list of export statements to the $BASH_ENV⁠ file, which means variables will only be available from the next command on.

The environment is specified with a suffix at the end of the var name like this: <name>_<envName>.

Example:

• Given this bash environment

  FOO_prod=bar
  FOO_dev=baz
  SECRET_prod=secret
  URL_dev=myurl
  

  Copy
• Running ./set_environment dev will expose:

  export FOO=baz
  export URL=myurl
  

  Copy

⁠source_hash

This script is used to compute a hash from a set of files or folders that can be used to uniquely identify the version of the application being built. The set of files are provided as an argument.

# From within the image
source_hash file1 *.sbt src/
# Returns: bfd9330d940698be0ac362e2765dcf3065ec7dd3
