Permetica Jenkins Controller (IBM Semeru Edition)

This repository contains the official Jenkins Controller Docker image for the Permetica project.

The image provides a stable, long-term support (LTS) release of Jenkins running on the high-performance IBM Semeru Runtime, JDK 21 Edition, which utilizes the OpenJ9 JVM.

How to Use

This image is designed to be flexible. While it contains modest and generic JVM settings by default, you can easily override them using environment variables.

Quick Start (docker run)

docker run -p 8080:8080 -p 50000:50000 -v jenkins_home:/var/jenkins_home permetica/jenkins:2.516.1-lts-semeru-21

Recommended Usage (docker-compose)

For a persistent and configurable setup, using a docker-compose.yml file is recommended.

Permetica (Performance Metrics & Analysis) is an open-source initiative dedicated to conducting comprehensive, unbiased performance analysis of major open-source Java projects. Our primary goal is to benchmark these projects across the industry's leading JDK distributions and publish the findings as a valuable, data-driven resource for the entire Java community.

This Jenkins controller serves as the backbone of our CI/CD and performance testing pipeline.

Design Philosophy

The choice of runtime for the Jenkins controller is a deliberate reflection of the project's core mission. Instead of using a default JDK, this controller runs on the IBM Semeru Runtime. This decision was made not only to test a key player in the Java ecosystem but also to utilize it as a stable, foundational piece of infrastructure. A reliable controller is essential for orchestrating the complex build and test pipelines that generate our performance data. This image is designed to provide that stable, performant, and consistent environment, ensuring the integrity of the entire Permetica project.
