phrontizo/squiddish repository overview

Squiddish

A high-performance HTTP caching proxy written in Rust, designed to accelerate APT package downloads across multiple machines. Ideal for CI pipelines, container builds, and local networks where the same packages are fetched repeatedly.

Key Features

  • Two-tier cache — memory (LRU/TinyLFU) + disk, with automatic promotion
  • Download deduplication — concurrent requests for the same file share a single upstream fetch
  • APT-aware TTLs — .deb packages cached 30 days, package lists 1 hour, configurable per category
  • HTTPS tunneling — CONNECT passthrough for encrypted traffic
  • Tiny footprint — ~10MB static binary in a scratch container, no runtime dependencies
  • Multi-arch — linux/amd64 and linux/arm64

Quick Start

```bash docker run -d -p 3128:3128 -v cache:/cache phrontizo/squiddish ```
Then configure APT: ```bash echo 'Acquire::http::Proxy "http://your-host:3128";' > /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/proxy ```
Configuration
All settings via environment variables. See GitHub for full docs.
