poullorca/hyphanet-node repository overview

ā šŸ›‘ ATTENTION! IMPORTANT MESSAGE šŸ›‘

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO FIRST REVIEW THE BIFROST INITIATIVE AND BIFROSTOS.

I have centralized my efforts to simplify access to multiple resilient networks. BifrostOS is now the recommended all-in-one solution, providing Hyphanet plus three other networks (Tor, I2P, ZeroNet) in a single, pre-configured image using one command.

I invite you to try BifrostOS, the comprehensive solution: āž”ļø Docker Hub: https://hub.docker.com/repository/docker/poullorca/bifrostos

Hyphanet Docker Container

This Docker image provides a secure, ready-to-use container for deploying a Hyphanet node. Hyphanet (Freenet) is a project, focused on censorship resistance, anonymity, and decentralized data storage.

It's designed for ease of use while prioritizing security and data integrity:

  • Automatic Configuration: Sets up FProxy access automatically.
  • Data Isolation: All node data and configuration are stored in a persistent Docker volume, separate from the container's filesystem.
  • Non-Root Operation: Runs with restricted privileges.
  • Secure Defaults: Configured with sensible security settings out-of-the-box.

Getting Started (Quick Start)

To run a Hyphanet node with persistent data:

docker run -d \
  --name hyphanet \
  -p 8123:8123 \
  -v hyphanet_data:/data \
  poullorca/hyphanet-node:v0.15.04

Accessing Hyphanet

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes for the node to initialize and set up.
  2. Open your web browser and go to: http://localhost:8123

Data Persistence

All essential node data (configuration, datastore, keys) is stored in the hyphanet_data volume mounted at /data inside the container. This ensures your node's state is preserved across container restarts or upgrades.

##Security Notes & Disclaimer

  • Local Access: By default, FProxy (port 8888) is bound only to the container's local network interface (127.0.0.1), as configured by the -p 8123:8123 flag. Never expose port 8123 publicly without implementing proper authentication and access controls.

  • Data Privacy: Node data is stored exclusively within the Docker volume and is not accessible to the container maintainer.

  • Responsible Use: This project is provided as-is. The maintainer does not monitor network activity and bears no responsibility for content transmitted. Responsible usage is crucial for maintaining a free and censorship-resistant network.
