This docker image can be used to run the jupyter notebook course notes for the UCL MSc module GEOG0111 Scientific Computing.

In particular, https://github.com/UCL-EO/geog0111/blob/master/notebooks/OutsideInstall-Docker.md⁠ for how you can most easily run the course using the docker. In essence, even though the docker image contains the notes, you should make a local version of the notebooks and run the docker notebook server on those notes. Then you don't have to worry about having a persistent docker session as everything will be persistent on your local computer. This matters also because you need to access some quite large datasets in the course, and its better to have that local.

So, to run the Docker, first make a local install of the notes from github eg in ${HOME}:

 cd ${HOME}/ && git clone https://github.com/UCL-EO/geog0111.git
 cd ${HOME}/geog0111/notebooks && tar xvzf data/cacheData.tar.Z

Then use:

docker run --rm -i --volume=${HOME}/geog0111:/home/$USER/tmp/geog0111 -w /home/$USER/tmp/geog0111  -p 8888:8888   -t ucleo/geog0111:latest 

That assumes your local copy of GEOG0111 is in ${HOME}/geog0111. It then mounts this as /home/$USER/tmp/geog0111 in the Docker image system and uses that ( /home/$USER/tmp/geog0111 ) as the working directory.
