progymedia/docker-installer repository overview

docker-docker-installer

This image is based on Debian Stretch (not slim!) and include Docker and Docker-compose. It also include some utilies that are often required in Docker based installers (at present: OpenSSL, curl and unzip).

Use cases

Docker and Docker-compose Application Installer

In most case, deploying docker-compose based application to new machines is very easy and require little discussion. There are however situations where complex setup procedures are required. For example, secret keys may need to be generated and copied around to several configuration files; questions might need to be prompted to the user and configuration files might need to be adjusted accordingly; databases and other data store might need to be initialized.

This image may be used as a base to build Docker or Docker-compose application installers.

Create a directory with the following structure.

  my-compose-installer
    + install.sh (see below)
    + install.bat (see below)
    + install_files
        + configure.sh
+ (other files required by configure.sh)

File install.sh:

#!/bin/sh

docker run \
    -it --rm --privileged \
    -v $PWD:/target \
    -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock \
    progymedia/docker-installer \
    /target/install_files/configure.sh

File install.bat:

docker run ^
    -it --rm --privileged ^
    -v %cd%:/target ^
    -v /var/run/docker.sock:/var/run/docker.sock ^
    progymedia/docker-installer ^
    /target/install_files/configure.sh
