⁠Tomcat Image

⁠Usage

docker run[ -v <webapps>:/webapps][ -v <logs>:/logs][ -v <.ssh>:/.ssh][ -p <http>:8080][ -p <https>:8443][ -p <AJP>:8009][ -p <tomcat>:8005] qasymphony/tomcat:<version>

⁠Description

A Tomcat image that runs in HTTP, HTTPS, APR and AJP mode.

⁠Volumes
  • /conf web server configuration location. The image will initialize the directory with default configurations.
  • /webapps web application directory
  • /logs log directory
  • /work Tomcat's working directory.
  • /.ssh SSL certificate and private key storage. The file names are specified using environment variables. They can also be mounted separatedly as files.
⁠Port
  • 8080 HTTP service
  • 8443 HTTPS service
  • 8009 AJP service
  • 8005 Tomcat communication service. This could be used to stop Tomcat remotely.
⁠Environment Variables
  • SSL_ENABLED specify if Tomcat starts with HTTPS protocol or not. This is unset by default.
  • SSL_PROTOCOL specify SSL protocol that Tomcat will run on. The default value is TLSv1.
  • SSL_CERT SSL certificate file, default to server.crt
  • SSL_KEY SSL private key, default to server.key
  • AJP_ENABLED specify if Tomcat starts with AJP protocol or not. This is unset by default.
  • TOMCAT_HOME for internal use only. Decendants of this image will need to specify this for the entry point to work properly.

⁠Extra

  • This image is built with Tomcat and an APR Native library installed.
  • By default, The image will start Tomcat in HTTP with APR mode and deploy applications in /webapps directory. Other protocols can be enabled by setting environment variables
  • If there is missing any SSL key or certificate specified by SSL_CERT and SSL_KEY inside the mounted /.ssh directory, the image will generate a random self-signed key for the server.
  • By default, the image will execute $TOMCAT_HOME/bin/catalina.sh run in the binary directory to start Tomcat and print output to stdout. We can run this image to a shell using:
    docker run[ -v <webapps>:/webapps][ -v <logs>:/logs][ -v <.ssh>:/.ssh][ -p <http>:8080][ -p <https>:8443][ -p <AJP>:8009][ -p <tomcat>:8005] qasymphony/tomcat:<version> /bin/bash
