redsoftru/red-database-open repository overview

Quick start

Pull docker image:

sudo docker pull redsoftru/red-database-open:3
sudo docker tag redsoftru/red-database-open:3 red-database:3

Start a RedDatabase container:

sudo docker run -p 3050:3050 --name myrdb -e SYSDBA_PASSWORD=somepassword -v mydata:/db -d red-database:3

Launch isql:

sudo docker run -it --rm --network host red-database:3 isql -u sysdba -p somepassword localhost:employee

or

sudo docker run -it --rm red-database:3 isql -u sysdba -p somepassword otherhost:employee

Environment variables

  • SYSDBA_PASSWORD - If specified, sysdba password will be changed (default is 'masterkey').

  • NO_EMPLOYEE - If value is 1, y, yes, t or true employee database and it's alias will be removed from container.

Where to store data

By default image use /db as place to store persistent data like security3.fdb, so you can use directory /db for your databases and:

  1. Use Docker's volume management and let Docker handle it for you:
sudo docker run --name myrdb -e SYSDBA_PASSWORD=somepassword -d red-database:3
  1. Use custom volume name for data volume:
sudo docker run --name myrdb -e SYSDBA_PASSWORD=somepassword -v mydata:/db -d red-database:3
  1. Mount /db as directory on host system:
sudo docker run --name myrdb -e SYSDBA_PASSWORD=somepassword -v /path/to/my/databases:/db -d red-database:3

How to configure RedDatabase

To change firebird.conf you can pass options through environment variables with prefix RDB__. Syntax is RDB__<option>=<value>. for example to start server in Classic mode:

sudo docker run -e RDB__ServerMode=Classic red-database:3

You can pass databases.conf options through environment variables with prefix RDB_DATABASES__. Syntax is RDB_DATABASES__<alias>[__<option>]=<value>. for example:

sudo docker run -e RDB_DATABASES__mydb=/db/test.fdb -e RDB_DATABASES__security.db__DefaultDbCachePages=50 red-database:3

will generate databases.conf:

mydb = /db/test.fdb
{
	DefaultDbCachePages = 50
}

For changing other configs, you should mount your custom config file from host system:

sudo docker run -v/path/to/fbtrace.conf:/opt/RedDatabase/fbtrace.conf red-database:3

RedDatabase/Firebird events

By default RedDatabase/Firebird use random ports for events handling. This image configuring port for events (RemoteAuxPort) to 3051.

Image versioning

  • red-database-open:latest - Current latest RDB release. Now it latest 3.0 and will switch to 4.0 later.
  • red-database-open:3.0 or red-database-open:3 - Latest 3.0 release
  • red-database-open:3.0.x.y - Image with specified RDB version where x and y - part of RDB version
  • red-database-open:3.0.x.y-z - Image with specified RDB version where x and y - part of RDB version and z - image version

Notes

  • If you specified password with SYSDBA_PASSWORD and changed it with gsec or 'ALTER USER', changes will be lost after container stop.
