⁠VS Code Server Docker Image

This Docker image provides a web-based instance of Visual Studio Code (VS Code) running on Arch Linux.

⁠About Visual Studio Code

Visual Studio Code is a lightweight but powerful source code editor developed by Microsoft. This container runs VS Code Server, which allows you to access VS Code through a web browser, providing a full development environment that can be accessed from anywhere.

• openssh (SSH client/server)
• openssl (SSL/TLS toolkit)

• sudo (privilege escalation)
• yay (AUR helper)

⁠Running the Container

⁠Basic Usage

docker run -d -p 8080:8080 -v "$(pwd):/code/source" --name vscode-server richiett/vscode:latest

After starting the container, access VS Code in your web browser at:

http://<host>:8080

⁠Environment Persistence

To persist your VS Code settings and extensions, you can mount additional volumes:

docker run -d -p 8080:8080 -v "$(pwd):/code/source" -v ~/.config/Code/User:/code/userdata --name vscode-server richiett/vscode:latest

⁠Additional Information

• The server runs on port 8080 by default
• The container runs as a non-root user (arch) for better security
• All server data is stored in /code directory
• The workspace directory is mounted at /code/source

⁠Security Note

This configuration runs without a connection token for ease of use. For production environments, consider enabling authentication mechanisms.
