Python development docker

Repository for the Dockerfile for Python development

To build the container, simply type:

docker build -t python_docker .

If you run the docker without arguments, it will launch ipython

docker run -ti -v `pwd`:/tmp/work -w=/tmp/work rokubun/python

You can also run a Jupyter instance (without requiring password). First launch this command:

docker run  -ti -v `pwd`:/tmp/work -w=/tmp/work  -p 7777:8888 rokubun/python  \
                    jupyter notebook --no-browser --allow-root --ip=0.0.0.0

Then proceed to address localhost:7777 in your browser.

To build the images in various platforms (to be used in e.g. Raspberry Pi), launch the docker buildx command:

folder=base_slim_stretch
tag=${folder//_/-}
cd ${folder}
docker buildx build  --platform linux/amd64,linux/arm64 -t rokubun/python:${tag} --push .

Raspberry Pi 4 uses linux/arm64, while previous models use linux/arm/v7.

Tags

base

The base Python docker simply inherits the Docker official python image and has an ipython console, to run it

docker run -ti -v `pwd`:/tmp/work -w=/tmp/work rokubun/python:base

numpy

This image includes the numpy and matplotlib packages into the base installation

docker run -ti -v `pwd`:/tmp/work -w=/tmp/work rokubun/python:numpy

scipy

This image includes the scipy/pandas packages into the base installation

docker run -ti -v `pwd`:/tmp/work -w=/tmp/work rokubun/python:scipy

laslib

Laslib with jupyter

docker run -ti -v `pwd`:/work -p 8080:80 laslib_jupyter
