ronwarshawsky/fedcli repository overview

FedCLI

Product page and documentation: https://applextech.com/

FedCLI is a SQL-first universal database CLI for DBAs, developers, operators, and platform teams working across relational, document, key-value, graph, search, time-series, and cloud data systems.

FedCLI gives teams one command-line surface for interactive querying, repeatable scripting, data movement, automation, and federated workflows across heterogeneous data estates.

Why FedCLI

  • One CLI for 20+ engines, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, ClickHouse, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, Bigtable, Neo4j, Cassandra, Redis, InfluxDB, Derby, H2, SQLite, DB2, MariaDB, Sybase ASE, and MongoDB.
  • Interactive REPL for day-to-day operator work.
  • One-shot execution with -c "..." for automation, wrappers, and job runners.
  • Script execution with @script.sql for repeatable operational procedures.
  • SQL*Plus-like workflow with commands such as CONNECT, DESCRIBE, SET, SHOW, COLUMN, BREAK, COMPUTE, and SPOOL.
  • psql-style backslash commands for teams that expect \c, \d, \dt, \dn, \conninfo, and \?.
  • Federated workflows across multiple systems through saved aliases and cross-system query patterns.
  • SQL-oriented access patterns across non-relational systems where supported.
  • CSV and JSON export/import.
  • AI-assisted SQL and syntax help using user-supplied LLM configuration.
  • Plugin-backed extension path for additional JDBC systems without rebuilding the core product.

Quick Start

Use docker run, not docker exec. This image is a direct CLI entrypoint, not a background service.

# Interactive CLI shell
docker run --rm -it -v dbcli-home:/var/lib/dbcli ronwarshawsky/fedcli:latest

# Run one command and exit
docker run --rm -v dbcli-home:/var/lib/dbcli ronwarshawsky/fedcli:latest -c "HELP"

# Run a mounted script
docker run --rm -v dbcli-home:/var/lib/dbcli -v "$PWD:/work" ronwarshawsky/fedcli:latest @/work/example.sql

If the public Docker Hub repository name is still ronwarshawsky/dbcli, keep that image path during the transition and use FedCLI as the product name in the copy. When the new repository exists, switch the heading and image path together.

What Makes It Different

FedCLI is built for real operator workflows, not just JDBC demos or single-engine shells.

  • Work across relational, NoSQL, search, graph, and cloud-native data systems from one tool.
  • Reuse SQL-oriented habits across very different platforms.
  • Reduce context switching between incompatible vendor CLIs.
  • Build repeatable federated and automation-friendly workflows.

Current Public Container Scope

This public image is a CLI-first release.

Supported runtime modes today:

  • Interactive REPL
  • One-shot command execution with -c
  • Script execution with @script.sql

This public image is not currently positioned as a long-lived multi-node control plane or general background service image.

Licensing

Official FedCLI Docker images are distributed under a commercial EULA with limited free usage.

Free use includes personal, educational, open-source, evaluation, and development/test use.

Commercial production use, redistribution, OEM use, and managed-service use require a paid FedCLI license. Free commercial production use is available per request and per approval.
