I am working on a project to enable cheap* and easy network services configuration for my Home network leveraging a Docker Swarm of Raspberry PI's (3+'s actually) connected to my Unifi UDMSE and POE. Unifi is great for a lot of things, but managing DHCP and DNS is not one of them. Should be able to install Docker, GlusterFS, and then launch the swarm to give me everything I need to get up and running. [As of this writing, RPI's are expensive and difficult to get a hold of due to supply chain issues, but I have a bunch of 3's laying around so by cheap I mean free for me.]

The goal is to build a common set of services that most [home] networks will be able to leverage, including

• BIND
• DHCPD
• Unbound (for recursive lookups)
• NTPD
• SMTP relay service
• NUT/UPSD
• Other TBD?

Why BIND and Unbound?

1. ISC DHCP and BIND are well integrated to perform DHCP dynamic DNS updates between the two.
2. Unbound is great for recursive lookups, especially when wanting to leverage encrypted DNS to a third party (e.g. Cloudflare / Google)
3. Unbound also has the ability to communicate with other DNS server using their hostname instead of IP addresses, so I can configure BIND as the primary/master and Unbound to act as authoritative, secondary DNS for local clients.
4. I want to run all this inside of a Docker Swarm, and since BIND master/slave configurations require IP addresses, this becomes difficult when the overlay networks give out random IP addresses.

This project also leverages GlusterFS running on the RPI's to manager shared configuration information across all the RPIs. A Docker GlusterFS plugin is also on the docket.

Will also be setting up a Github with Compose files for the Swarm and what not.
