🐳 μEDP Unified Development Container

The μEDP Development Image is a pre-configured, all-in-one SDK environment designed to provide a seamless and consistent development experience for the μEDP (micro Event-Driven Programming - Framework)

By encapsulating complex toolchains and dependencies, this image fulfills the μEDP mission of "Zero-Touch Porting"—ensuring that your environment is ready for building, configuring, and testing across STM32, ESP32, and Linux platforms without any manual host-side installation.

🌟 Key Purposes & Benefits
  • Isolated Toolchain: Eliminates "it works on my machine" issues by providing a unified version of GCC, G++ (GNU), CMake, and GDB.
  • Embedded-Ready (ESP-IDF v5.1): Comes pre-installed with the complete Espressif IoT Development Framework (ESP-IDF), allowing immediate compilation for ESP32 targets.
  • Automated Code Generation: Integrated with kconfiglib and Jinja2 to support the μEDP configuration-driven workflow (generating source code from Kconfig menus).
  • CI/CD & Testing Ready: Includes pytest and pyserial, enabling automated unit testing and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) communication right out of the box.
  • Platform Agnostic: Runs identically on Windows, Linux, and macOS, abstracting the underlying general purpose OS complexities.
🛠️ Included Technical Stack
ComponentDescription
Base OSPython 3.13-slim (Debian-based) for high performance and low footprint.
CompilersGNU Toolchain (GCC/G++, Make, Binutils) for native and embedded builds.
Build SystemCMake & Ninja-build for modern project management.
ESP-IDFFull Espressif Framework v5.1 with all environment variables pre-configured.
Python Toolskconfiglib (Terminal UI), jinja2 (Templating), pytest (Testing), pyserial (Comms).
PersistenceOptimized volume mapping for /uedp-libs and /uedp-test to ensure data safety.
🚀 Quick Start

To launch the μEDP workspace with interactive terminal support and proper user permissions, simply use Docker Compose:

# Start the interactive environment
docker-compose run --rm uedp-tool
# Use --rm if you only want to generate config file and not use PLTF

The container will automatically trigger the entrypoint.sh script, which:

  1. Exports the ESP-IDF path.
  2. Checks for existing Kconfig configurations.
  3. Synchronizes generated code via tsgen.py.
  4. Drops you into a production-ready Bash shell.

“Developing event-driven systems shouldn't start with a 5-hour toolchain setup. With μEDP Docker, it starts with a single command.”
