silelmot/libation-container repository overview

I will not further work on this project in favor of a new (vibe coded) alternative solely for headless servers! Code is on codeberg, if you want to build it new your own:

https://codeberg.org/Sil_el_mot/libation-container

Overview

This Docker image allows you to run Libation, a tool for managing Audibles Audiobooks, in a virtualized environment with a graphical interface accessible via VNC and Websockets. Features

  • Libation: A powerful eBook management tool.
  • Xvnc: VNC server to provide access to the virtual X server. (former x11vnc was to slow)
  • openbox: Lightweight window manager.
  • noVNC: VNC client implemented using HTML5 (WebSockets, Canvas).

Included Tools

  • Debian Slim: A minimal Debian-based image.
  • Libation: eBook manager tool.
  • tightxvnc: VNC server.
  • openbox: Window manager.
  • noVNC: Web-based VNC client.
  • websockify: WebSocket to TCP proxy/bridge.

How to Use

Pull the Image

To pull the image from Docker Hub, use the following command:

docker pull silelmot/libation-container:latest

Running the Container

You can run the container using the following command:

 docker run -d -p 5901:5901 -p 6080:6080 \
    -v $(pwd)/Books:/root/Libation/Books \
    -v $(pwd)/Images:/root/Libation/Images \
    -v $(pwd)/Config:/root/Libation/Config \
    -v $(pwd)/Logs:/root/Libation/Logs \
    --name libation_container \
    silelmot/libation-container:latest

Example docker-compose.yml

Here is an example of how you can use Docker Compose to manage your Libation container:

version: '3.8'

services:
  libation:
    image: silelmot/libation-container:latest
    container_name: libation_container
    volumes:
      - ./Books:/root/Libation/Books
      - ./Images:/root/Libation/Images
      - ./Config:/root/Libation/Config
      - ./Logs:/root/Libation/Logs
    ports:
      - "5901:5901"
      - "6080:6080"
    restart: always

Accessing the Application

After starting the container, you can access the Libation interface through VNC or your web browser:

  • VNC: Connect to localhost:5901 using a VNC client.
  • Web Browser: Open http://localhost:6080 to access the noVNC web interface.

Configuration

The configuration files Settings.json and AccountsSettings.json are automatically copied to the /root/Libation/Config directory if they do not already exist. You can modify these files to customize the behavior of Libation.

Logging

Log files are stored in the /root/Libation/Logs directory inside the container. You can bind this directory to a local directory on your host to persist the logs.

Healthchecks

The container includes healthchecks to ensure that the necessary services (Xvfb, openbox, and libation) are running and the ports are accessible.

This container and this overview is made with the help of ai. Not entirely but partly.
