sistemaszataca/ispconfig-docker repository overview

ISPConfig Docker Container

This repository provides a Docker image for ISPConfig with Debian 11 and Nginx web server.

Based on HowToForge Perfect Server Automated ISPConfig 3 Installation on Debian 11 tutorial.

https://www.howtoforge.com/ispconfig-autoinstall-debian-ubuntu/

Environment Variables

You need to create a .env file to define your environment variables before building and running the container. Below is an example of the .env file:

SERVER_IP=127.0.1.1
FULL_HOSTNAME=server1.example.com
SHORT_HOSTNAME=server1

Building the Docker Image

To build the Docker image, ensure that your Dockerfile and the .env file are in the same directory, then run the following command:

docker build -t sistemaszataca/ispconfig-docker:tagname .

Running the Docker Container

To run the Docker container with the environment variables defined in the .env file, use the following command:

docker run --env-file .env -d -p 20:20 -p 21:21 -p 22:22 -p 25:25 -p 80:80 -p 443:443 -p 40110-40210:40110-40210 -p 110:110 -p 143:143 -p 465:465 -p 587:587 -p 993:993 -p 995:995 -p 53:53 -p 8080:8080 -p 8081:8081 --name ispconfig-container sistemaszataca/ispconfig-docker:tagname

Exposed Ports

The following ports are exposed and should be mapped to your host:

  • 20 (TCP) - FTP Data

  • 21 (TCP) - FTP Control

  • 22 (TCP) - SSH

  • 25 (TCP) - SMTP

  • 80 (TCP) - HTTP

  • 443 (TCP) - HTTPS

  • 40110-40210 (TCP) - Passive FTP

  • 110 (TCP) - POP3

  • 143 (TCP) - IMAP

  • 465 (TCP) - SMTPS

  • 587 (TCP) - Submission

  • 993 (TCP) - IMAPS

  • 995 (TCP) - POP3S

  • 53 (TCP/UDP) - DNS

  • 8080 (TCP) - ISPConfig Panel

  • 8081 (TCP) - ISPConfig Panel (alternative)

Accessing ISPConfig

Once the container is running, you can access the ISPConfig panel by navigating to:

https://:8080

Replace with the domain you configured in your .env file.

Firewall Setup

To set up the firewall in ISPConfig:

  1. Log in to the ISPConfig UI.

  2. Navigate to System -> Firewall.

  3. Click "Add new firewall record".

  4. Configure the necessary ports as follows:

    • TCP: 20,21,22,25,80,443,40110:40210,110,143,465,587,993,995,53,8080,8081

    • UDP: 53

Important Information

  • Ensure you have a DNS record set up with your DNS provider that points to your server's public IP. There should be an A (and/or AAAA) record for the subdomain that points to your public IP.

  • The container's entrypoint script handles setting the hostname and modifying the /etc/hosts file using environment variables.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues, ensure that the environment variables are correctly set in the .env file and that all necessary ports are properly mapped.
