soldemeyer/koboldcpp-gpu repository overview

soldemeyer/koboldcpp-gpu

KoboldCpp for NVIDIA GPUs. KoboldCpp runs GGUF language models locally (it's built on llama.cpp). It serves the KoboldAI Lite web UI, plus KoboldAI-, OpenAI- and Ollama-compatible APIs. It can also load models for image generation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech and embeddings.

Tags

TagWhat it is
latestThe newest build.
<KoboldCpp version>, e.g. v1.123.1One build. A new one is made automatically when KoboldCpp publishes a release.
  • Kept tags: only the 5 newest version tags are kept; older ones are deleted.
  • Platform: linux/amd64.

What's in the image

  • Base: nvidia/cuda:13.0.2-runtime-ubuntu24.04.
  • KoboldCpp: the official koboldcpp-linux-x64 binary (the CUDA build) from the newest GitHub release, at /app/koboldcpp. It's a self-contained bundle that unpacks itself into /tmp when it starts.
  • No model is included. You mount your own, or give KoboldCpp a URL to download one.
  • Port: 5001.
  • Startup: the entrypoint is /app/koboldcpp, with the default arguments --port 5001. The working directory is /app, and it runs as root.

Running it with Docker Compose

You need an NVIDIA driver and the NVIDIA Container Toolkit on the host.

  1. Put a GGUF model in a models folder next to the Compose file.
  2. Save the example below as docker-compose.yml, and change --model to your file's name. You can also give a https:// URL to a .gguf file, and KoboldCpp downloads it on start.
  3. Start it with docker compose up -d. Loading a model can take a few minutes; follow it with docker compose logs -f koboldcpp.
  4. Open http://localhost:5001.

KoboldCpp needs a model (or a --config file) to start. Without one it exits, because it can't show its setup window in a container.

KoboldCpp is configured with command-line arguments, set in command:. That list replaces the image's default --port 5001, so the example keeps --port. The example covers the commonly used options. For all of them:

docker run --rm soldemeyer/koboldcpp-gpu:latest --help
# Example Compose file for soldemeyer/koboldcpp-gpu. Optional settings are commented
# out; uncomment an option together with its value.
services:

    # Web UI and APIs on http://localhost:5001. KOBOLDCPP_BIND_IP is read by Compose,
    # not the container: set it to 0.0.0.0 in a .env file next to this file to reach
    # KoboldCpp from your LAN (set KCPP_PASSWORD first). The container-side port must
    # match --port below.

Using it

  • Web UI: KoboldAI Lite at http://localhost:5001.
  • APIs: OpenAI-compatible clients use http://<host>:5001/v1. KoboldAI clients use http://<host>:5001/api.
  • Security: with KCPP_PASSWORD set, clients send the key as a bearer token. Without it, the API has no authentication, so keep the port off untrusted networks.
