subens/virtualbox repository overview

The virtualbox will not be installed, only its modules will be compiled

Create a new container

  • docker run -dt --name tt subens/virtualbox

Copy and extract the file from the container on the host (/usr/lib/virtualbox)

  • docker cp tt:/root/vboxlib.tar.gz /

Copy and extract the file from the container on the host (/usr/share/virtualbox)

  • docker cp tt:/root/vboxshare.tar.gz /

Build the virtualbox driver on the host and verify that the module has been loaded

  • /usr/lib/virtualbox/vboxdrv.sh setup
  • lsmod | grep vb

Remove the created container if you want and create a new one by adding a host device in the container

  • docker run -dt --name qq --privileged --device /dev/vboxdrv:/dev/vboxdrv -p 8080:80 -v /vms:/vms subens/virtualbox

In the above command, it was also optionally mapped a directory that stores the VMs and a port, since this image has phpvirtualbox installed, to manage the VMs from the internet browser

The phpvirtualbox can then be accessed by the address http://127.0.0.1:8080/phpvb, with admin user and admin password

Always create the VMs with the phpvb user, as it is the one who is running the virtualbox web module
