⁠ruby

An opionated base ruby image that's easily upgradable.

⁠Tools and Libraries

The following tools are built-in:

• git
• curl
• unzip
• build-essential
• tzdata
• gnupg

These libs are preinstalled:

• zlib1g-dev
• libssl-dev
• libreadline-dev
• libyaml-dev
• libxml2-dev
• libxslt1-dev
• libcurl4-openssl-dev
• libffi-dev
• libpq-dev
• postgresql-client

⁠Ruby spezifisches

The image is able to modify the bundler version by specifiying a build-time ARG named BUNLDER_VERSION. It further more updates the gemsystem to use the latest version. GEM_HOME is set to /bundle, this can later be used as a mount. More Bundler settings can be found on the bundler page⁠.

⁠Workdir

Per convention the default working directory is to /app.

⁠Makefile

You can easily build the image by using the complementary Makefile found in this repo.

Call it like this: make build make build push builds the image and pushes it to the Docker Hub with the following tags:

• hub.docker.com/talentplatforms/ruby:${IMAGE_NAME}:${RUBY_VERSION}-slim-${DEBIAN_VERSION_NAME}
• hub.docker.com/talentplatforms/docker/ruby:latest

The following variables can be adjusted to modify the outcome of the image:

# VARIABLE=default
RUBY_VERSION=2.7.0
DEBIAN_VERSION_NAME=buster
BUNDLER_VERSION=2.1.4

You can override a specific variable by calling it like so: make RUBY_VERSION=2.5.2 build push
