teyfix/broker-tools repository overview

Broker provisioning tools

teyfix/broker-tools is a scratch artifact containing native rpk and nats under /tools/bin, built for AMD64 and ARM64. It has no entrypoint or running broker. Versions belong to docker-bake.hcl; smoke tests execute both binaries and round-trip native local configuration on each architecture.

Copy the tools into a consumer's pipeline extension when that pipeline owns topic/stream provisioning:

FROM teyfix/broker-tools:edge AS brokers
FROM teyfix/redpanda-connect:edge
COPY --from=brokers /tools/bin/ /tools/bin/
COPY connect/ /src/

Use a tested immutable build/commit tag in the consuming project. This works for teyfix/vector too. Configure its existing provision.command to run the consumer's CUE command or native provisioning script. That owner decides topic partitions, retention, credentials and stream definitions; the shared artifact does not infer them. A command failure prevents pipeline startup. Native clients retain their ordinary environment/configuration interfaces; do not bake credentials into the extension.

This keeps Kafka-specific tooling out of teyfix/base and avoids forcing a Redpanda broker into NATS projects. Copying these tools into other runtimes still requires a shell/certificates where the consumer's commands need them. Run docker buildx bake broker-tools-smoke to verify the artifact.
