theclocktwister/raspbian-python repository overview

Python 3 (3.7.3) for Raspberry Pi 4

This image is used to dockerize Python applications on Raspberry Pi hardware. Using this image, you will be able to use:

  • Raspbian Buster (required for a Raspberry Pi 4)
  • The native Raspberry Pi camera
  • The Raspberry GPIO header

Using GPIO header from inside the container

To access the host's GPIO header, you will need to passthrough the GPIO I/O device into the container with this flag:

--device /dev/gpiomem:/dev/gpiomem

Source Dockerfile

If, for some reason, you need to change/rebuild this image on your own, here's the original Dockerfile:

FROM theclocktwister/raspbian-buster:latest
WORKDIR /root
RUN apt-get update
RUN apt-get install -y python3 python3-pip
RUN ln -s /usr/bin/python3 /usr/bin/python
RUN ln -s /usr/bin/pip3 /usr/bin/pip
RUN pip install colorama pillow picamera RPi.GPIO

# Install package for documentation converting
RUN wget -o wkhtmltopdf.deb https://github.com/wkhtmltopdf/wkhtmltopdf/releases/download/0.12.5/wkhtmltox_0.12.5-1.raspbian.stretch_armhf.deb
RUN dpkg -i wkhtmltopdf.deb
