This Docker image is an instance of the Fedora Commons Data Repository software, implemented as an example for the Research Data Alliance⁠.

It is using the "One-Click-Run Application" of Fedora Commons in version 4.5.1. The Docker image is based on the "Java" Docker image and could be used to take a first look at Fedora Commons. This image is NOT meant to be used in a productive environment!

The Fedora Commons Docker image can be started:

docker run -p 1111:8080 -t -i thomaszastrow/fedora-commons /bin/bash

This will fire up the Docker image, Fedora Commons will start automatically. You can access Fedora Commons then from your local machine on port 1111:

http://localhost:1111⁠

If you want to access Fedora Commons on a different port, change the run command accordingly.

With "CTRL-C", you can stop the automatically started Fedora Commons instance. You will come to a Bash prompt, from where you can explore the Docker image:

• Fedora Commons is "installed" as the One-Click application in

/usr/local/fedoracommons/fcrepo-webapp-4.5.1-jetty-console.jar

• The data lands in

/usr/local/fedoracommons/fcrepo4-data

(Yes, this is nothing else than the standard One-Click-Installation of Fedora Commons ...)

• You can start Fedora Commons again via

/usr/local/bin/startfedora.sh

(This command is also executed in /root/.bashrc - so when you fire up the Docker container and execute the bash, this command is executed)
