Please use the docker official image:** https://hub.docker.com/_/mysql/\n\n[![Deploy to Tutum](https://s.tutum.co/deploy-to-tutum.svg)](https://dashboard.tutum.co/stack/deploy/)\n\nBase docker image to run a MySQL database server\n\n\nMySQL version\n-------------\n\nDifferent versions are built from different folders. If you want to use MariaDB, please check our `tutum/mariadb` image: https://github.com/tutumcloud/tutum-docker-mariadb\n\n\nUsage\n-----\n\nTo create the image `tutum/mysql`, execute the following command on the tutum-mysql folder:\n\n docker build -t tutum/mysql 5.5/\n\nTo run the image and bind to port 3306:\n\n docker run -d -p 3306:3306 tutum/mysql\n\nThe first time that you run your container, a new user `admin` with all privileges\nwill be created in MySQL with a random password. To get the password, check the logs\nof the container by running:\n\n docker logs \n\nYou will see an output like the following:\n\n ========================================================================\n You can now connect to this MySQL Server using:\n\n mysql -uadmin -p47nnf4FweaKu -h -P\n\n Please remember to change the above password as soon as possible!\n MySQL user 'root' has no password but only allows local connections.\n ========================================================================\n\nIn this case, `47nnf4FweaKu` is the password allocated to the `admin` user.\n\nRemember that the `root` user has no password, but it's only accessible from within the container.\n\nYou can now test your deployment:\n\n mysql -uadmin -p\n\nDone!\n\nPassing extra configuration to start mysql server\n------------------------------------------------\n\nTo pass additional settings to `mysqld`, you can use environment variable `EXTRA_OPTS`.\nFor example, to run mysql using lower case table name, you can do:\n\n docker run -d -p 3306:3306 -e EXTRA_OPTS=\"--lower_case_table_names=1\" tutum/mysql\n\nSetting a specific password for the admin account\n-------------------------------------------------\n\nIf you want to use a preset password instead of a random generated one, you can\nset the environment variable `MYSQL_PASS` to your specific password when running the container:\n\n docker run -d -p 3306:3306 -e MYSQL_PASS=\"mypass\" tutum/mysql\n\nYou can now test your deployment:\n\n mysql -uadmin -p\"mypass\"\n\nThe admin username can also be set via the `MYSQL_USER` environment variable.\n\n\n\nCreating a database on container creation\n-------------------------------------------------\n\nIf you want a database to be created inside the container when you start it up\nfor the first time you can set the environment variable `ON_CREATE_DB` to a string\nthat names the database.\n\n docker run -d -p 3306:3306 -e ON_CREATE_DB=\"newdatabase\" tutum/mysql\n\nIf this is combined with importing SQL files, those files will be imported into the\ncreated database.\n\nMounting the database file volume\n---------------------------------\n\nIn order to persist the database data, you can mount a local folder from the host\non the container to store the database files. To do so:\n\n docker run -d -v /path/in/host:/var/lib/mysql tutum/mysql /bin/bash -c \"/usr/bin/mysql_install_db\"\n\nThis will mount the local folder `/path/in/host` inside the docker in `/var/lib/mysql` (where MySQL will store the database files by default). `mysql_install_db` creates the initial database structure.\n\nRemember that this will mean that your host must have `/path/in/host` available when you run your docker image!\n\nAfter this you can start your MySQL image, but this time using `/path/in/host` as the database folder:\n\n docker run -d -p 3306:3306 -v /path/in/host:/var/lib/mysql tutum/mysql\n\n\nMounting the database file volume from other containers\n------------------------------------------------------\n\nAnother way to persist the database data is to store database files in another container.\nTo do so, first create a container that holds database files:\n\n docker run -d -v /var/lib/mysql --name db_vol -p 22:22 tutum/ubuntu-trusty\n\nThis will create a new ssh-enabled container and use its folder `/var/lib/mysql` to store MySQL database files.\nYou can specify any name of the container by using `--name` option, which will be used in next step.\n\nAfter this you can start your MySQL image using volumes in the container created above (put the name of container in `--volumes-from`)\n\n docker run -d --volumes-from db_vol -p 3306:3306 tutum/mysql\n\n\nMigrating an existing MySQL Server\n----------------------------------\n\nIn order to migrate your current MySQL server, perform the following commands from your current server:\n\nTo dump your databases structure:\n\n mysqldump -u -p --opt -d -B > /tmp/dbserver_schema.sql\n\nTo dump your database data:\n\n mysqldump -u -p --quick --single-transaction -t -n -B > /tmp/dbserver_data.sql\n\nTo import a SQL backup which is stored for example in the folder `/tmp` in the host, run the following:\n\n sudo docker run -d -v /tmp:/tmp tutum/mysql /bin/bash -c \"/import_sql.sh /tmp/\"\n\nAlso, you can start the new database initializing it with the SQL file:\n\n sudo docker run -d -v /path/in/host:/var/lib/mysql -e STARTUP_SQL=\"/tmp/\" tutum/mysql\n\nYou can pass additional parameters to mysql import by setting IMPORT_OPTS env.\nE.g --force to ommit import errors as below:\n\n sudo docker run -d -v /path/in/host:/var/lib/mysql -e STARTUP_SQL=\"/tmp/\" -e IMPORT_OPTS=--force tutum/mysql\n\nWhere `` and `` are the database username and password set earlier and `` is the name of the SQL file to be imported.\n\n\nReplication - Master/Slave\n-------------------------\nTo use MySQL replication, please set environment variable `REPLICATION_MASTER`/`REPLICATION_SLAVE` to `true`. Also, on master side, you may want to specify `REPLICATION_USER` and `REPLICATION_PASS` for the account to perform replication, the default value is `replica:replica`\n\nExamples:\n- Master MySQL\n-\n docker run -d -e REPLICATION_MASTER=true -e REPLICATION_PASS=mypass -p 3306:3306 --name mysql tutum/mysql\n\n- Example on Slave MySQL:\n-\n docker run -d -e REPLICATION_SLAVE=true -p 3307:3306 --link mysql:mysql tutum/mysql\n\nNow you can access port `3306` and `3307` for the master/slave MySQL.\n\nEnvironment variables\n---------------------\n\n`MYSQL_USER`: Set a specific username for the admin account (default 'admin').\n\n`MYSQL_PASS`: Set a specific password for the admin account.\n\n`STARTUP_SQL`: Defines one or more SQL scripts separated by spaces to initialize the database. Note that the scripts must be inside the container, so you may need to mount them.\n\nCompatibility Issues\n--------------------\n\n- Volume created by MySQL 5.6 cannot be used in MySQL 5.5 Images or MariaDB images.\n","has_starred","hub_user","immutable_tags_settings",{"_75":11,"_76":77},"enabled","rules",[78],".*","is_automated","permissions",{"_82":21,"_83":11,"_84":11},"read","write","admin","user","storage_size",272836832,"orgData","recentTags",[91],{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":98,"_99":100,"_50":118,"_119":94,"_120":33,"_121":56,"_57":122,"_123":124,"_125":109,"_126":118,"_127":66,"_128":21},"content_type","creator",264489,"full_size",117528500,"id",4238620,"images",[101],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":107,"_108":109,"_110":111,"_112":113,"_114":107,"_115":-5,"_116":96,"_63":66,"_117":-5},"architecture","amd64","digest","sha256:0b617da3ce61efefb8cedc6a9c759cbbba210500bd3f8f912c6e346ec0583be0","features","","last_pulled","2026-10-09T01:31:15.277630573Z","last_pushed","2016-08-09T19:50:03Z","os","linux","os_features","os_version","size","variant","2016-08-09T19:50:02.574987Z","last_updater","last_updater_username","media_type","latest","repository",846953,"tag_last_pulled","tag_last_pushed","tag_status","v2","sbxKitMetadata","isPotentialSpam","isHubSbxKitsEnabled","showSbxLogoOverride","sbxTrademarkText","displaySecurityMetadata","tagAttestations","tagsHaveAttestations",[],"selectedTag","attestationsUrl","routes/_layout.r.$namespace.$reponame.tags",{"_38":142,"_149":150,"_136":159,"_160":11},{"_40":143,"_42":144,"_45":46,"_47":48,"_49":11,"_50":51,"_52":53,"_54":145,"_57":35,"_32":33,"_58":59,"_60":-5,"_61":62,"_63":64,"_65":66,"_67":-5,"_68":62,"_69":70,"_71":11,"_72":33,"_73":146,"_79":21,"_80":148,"_85":33,"_86":87},[],[44],[56],{"_75":11,"_76":147},[78],{"_82":21,"_83":11,"_84":11},"tags",{"_151":64,"_152":-5,"_153":-5,"_154":155},"count","next","previous","results",[156],{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":98,"_99":157,"_50":118,"_119":94,"_120":33,"_121":56,"_57":122,"_123":124,"_125":109,"_126":118,"_127":66,"_128":21},[158],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":107,"_108":109,"_110":111,"_112":113,"_114":107,"_115":-5,"_116":96,"_63":66,"_117":-5},[],"canDeleteTags","actionData","errors"]
