This dockerfile creates an image with the AWS CLI tool running on Python 2.7.9 (Ubuntu 18.04)

⁠to build

docker build -t tomsmithokta/awscli-python279 .

⁠to run

The AWS CLI needs AWS credentials⁠ to run. If you want to create credentials inside the container, you can just run:

docker run -it tomsmithokta/awscli-python279

You can then manually create a .aws directory in the running container. Or, you can run the command

aws configure

Or, if you have a .aws directory in your host system, you can map it to the container when you launch the container:

docker run -v /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/docker/prod/awscli/awscli-python279/.aws:/root/.aws -it tomsmithokta/awscli-python279

run an aws command, such as:

aws s3 ls
