toroandaluz/base64service repository overview

Purpose

This is a simple service for encoding/decoding strings to/from base64. You can pull the image with thedocker pull toroandaluz/base64servicecommand, or with docker compose, specifying tag "image: toroandaluz/base64service" in your compose.yml. After running container you can reach the service with the browser.

Usage examples

encode to base64: http://localhost:8080/base64/encode?value=login:password

decode from base64: http://localhost:8080/base64/decode?value=bG9naW46cGFzc3dvcmQ=

Links provided here assume that you're calling the service from inside of the container. If you want to use it from the "outer" net, please change host and port in the link (you also need to configure port mapping according to your network configuration).

Other option is to start some web-server, like nginx in the other container, configured as a reverse proxy and forward requests to base64 service through it. Sample compose.yml for this case:

services:
  nginx:
    image: nginx
    container_name: nginx
    restart: always
    volumes:
      - ./nginx/default.conf:/etc/nginx/conf.d/default.conf
      - ./nginx/nginx.conf:/etc/nginx/nginx.conf
    ports:
      - "8080:8080"
    networks:
      - mine
  service_base64:
    image: toroandaluz/base64service
    container_name: base64svc
    restart: always
    networks:
      - mine

networks:
  mine:
    external: true

You also need to describe mappings in nginx default.conf file like this:

upstream upbase64 {
    server base64svc:8080;
}

server {
    listen       8080;
...
    location /base64 {
        proxy_pass "http://upbase64";
    }
...
