A list of dates possibly available (default \\-01-01 until today) is used to compare hypothetical available data sets with actual local available ones. So file listing on the FTP side is skipped due to (formerly) unreliable connection.\n\nRADOLAN data from the German Weather Service (Deutscher Wetterdienst, DWD) is copyrighted! Please find the copyright text [here](https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/CDC/Terms_of_use.pdf).\nThe freely accessible data may be re-used without any restrictions provided that the source reference is indicated, as laid down in the GeoNutzV ordinance.\n\nThe RADOLAN precipitation data files are *updated daily* by DWD.\n\n

\n\nThe data can be found at [opendata.dwd.de](https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/CDC/grids_germany/hourly/radolan/recent/asc/ \"https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/CDC/grids_germany/hourly/radolan/recent/asc/\").\n\n\n## Installation \n\nThe software is developed and tested for usage in Linux.\nThe preferred way of installing is in a `conda` environment because a working GDAL install is more likely with this option.\nA conda package for raddo will potentially be available in the future through `conda forge`.\nHowever, also direct installation is possible. A `pip` package is however not provided for that reason.\nTesting is done using the conda version of GDAL with `pytest`.\n\nThere is also a **docker image** available at the [docker hub](https://hub.docker.com/r/tramsauer/raddo/) if you don't mind the overhead. See the [Docker](#Docker) section below for instructions.\n\n### GDAL \n\n`GDAL` is a requirement of `raddo`.\nInstallation of this dependency can be a problem.\nIf errors arise, `GDAL` binaries might be missing.\nWhen using *conda*, `conda install -c conda-forge gdal` should work.\nOn Ubuntu (and derivates) using the `UbuntuGIS-ppa` seems to be working quite well.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n### Direct Install \n\nBetter have GDAL python bindings already installed (see above).\nClone this repository, change into new directory and run:\n\n``` sh\ngit clone \ncd raddo\npip install .\n```\n\nor\n``` sh\npip install -e .\n```\nif you want to work on the code.\n\n\n## Usage \n\nDownload RADOLAN data from 14 days ago till *yesterday* to current directory with `raddo`.\n\nFor further arguments consult the help text:\n\n``` sh\nusage: raddo [-h] [-s START] [-e END] [-d DIRECTORY] [-C] [-f] [-x] [-g] [-n]\n [-N OUTFILE] [-m MASK] [-b BUFFERSIZE] [-F] [-D] [-y] [-v]\n [-u URL] [-r ERRORS] [-t]\n\nraddo - utility to download and preprocess RADOLAN RW\n weather radar data from DWD servers.\n\noptional arguments:\n -h, --help show this help message and exit\n -d DIRECTORY, --directory DIRECTORY\n Path to local directory where RADOLAN shouldbe (and\n may already be) saved. Checks for existing files only\n if this flag is set. Default: current directory.\n -s START, --start START\n Start date as parsable string (e.g. \"2018-05-20\").\n Default: 14 days ago.\n -e END, --end END End date as parsable string (e.g. \"2020-05-20\").\n Default: yesterday\n -C, --complete Run all subcommands. Same as using flags -fxgn.\n -f, --sort-in-folders\n Should the data be sorted in folders?\n -x, --extract Should the data be extracted?\n -g, --geotiff Set if GeoTiffs in EPSG:4326 should be created for\n newly downloaded files.\n -n, --netcdf Create a NetCDF from GeoTiffs?\n -N OUTFILE, --netcdf-file OUTFILE\n Name of the output NetCDF file.\n -m MASK, --mask MASK Use mask when creating NetCDF.\n -b BUFFERSIZE, --buffer BUFFERSIZE\n Buffer in meter around mask shapefile (Default 1400m).\n -F, --force Forces local file search. Omits faster check of\n \".raddo_local_files.txt\".\n -D, --force-download Forces download of all files.\n -y, --yes Skip user input. Just accept to download to current\n directory if not specified otherwise.\n -v, --version Print information on software version.\n -u URL, --radolan_server_url URL\n Path to recent .asc RADOLAN data on DWD servers.\n Default: https://opendata.dwd.de/climate_environment/C\n DC/grids_germany/hourly/radolan/recent/asc/\n -r ERRORS, --errors-allowed ERRORS\n Errors allowed when contacting DWD Server. Default: 5\n -t, --no-time-correction\n Omit time adjustment to previous hour in netCDF file\n creation and just use RADOLANs sum up time HH:50\n (Default: false).\n\n```\n### CLI Example \n\nDownload data since June 15th 2020 to current directory and sort, extract, create Geotiffs and a NetCDF file:\n``` sh\nraddo -s \"2020-07-15\" -C\n```\n\nDownload `RADOLAN` data to *folder1* (`-d`) from *2020-07-15* (`-s`) until yesterday (default) for point in shapefile `test_pt.shp` (`-m`). Sort and extract nested archives and create GeoTiffs and a single NetCDF file from there (`-C`). Don't check for available files but just download all needed files (`-D`):\n``` sh\nraddo -d \"folder1\" -s \"2020-07-15\" -CD -m \"test_pt.shp\"\n```\n\nMore visual:\n\n![example image should load here...](raddo.gif \"Terminal prompt\")\n\n\n### Python Script \n\n\n``` python\nimport raddo as rd\n\nrd.radolan_down(rad_dir_dwd = ..., )\n```\n\n\n### Docker \n\n\nDocker lets you run raddo in a containerized form.\nAll depenencies are set up - including GDAL.\n`docker pull tramsauer/raddo` gets you the prebuilt image from docker-hub.\nAlternatively, with the included `Dockerfile` the image can also be directly built with `docker build -t raddo .` from the root directory of the repository.\n\n`raddo` then can be used like this:\n\n`docker run -ti --rm -v /tmp/RADOLAN:/data raddo -C -s \"20210422\"`\n\n- `-ti`: docker runs in an interactive tty\n- `--rm`: the container is destroyed after usage\n- `-v /tmp/RADOLAN:/data`: an existing folder (`/tmp/RADOLAN`) is connected to the container (internal folder `/data`)\n - If asked accept to save the data in `/data`\n- `raddo`: image name, that automatically starts the `raddo` program\n- `-C -s ....`: after the image name, additional arguments for `raddo` can be added, here:\n - `-C`: complete processing\n - `-s \"20210422\"`: starting date\n\nThe data can then be found in the linked folder, e.g. `/tmp/RADOLAN`.\n\n\n### Warnings \n\n- currently, if a shapefile mask is used, sub-optimal *nearest neighbour resampling* is applied in the GeoTiff conversion (as other methods were not functional in gdal python bindings..(?)).\n- if GeoTiffs are not wanted, they need to be created anyways, and processing might fill up your *tempfs* in `/tmp`..\n- if multiple polygons are used as mask, they are dissolved & buffered.\n- `raddo` does not recreate nor warn if GeoTiffs are already available.\n\n## Contributing \n\nSee [CONTRIBUTING](CONTRIBUTING.md) document.\n\n## License \n[![license badge](https://img.shields.io/badge/license-GNU_GPLv3-blue)](LICENSE.txt)\n\nPlease find the license agreement in [LICENSE.txt](LICENSE.txt)\n\n## Changelog \n\nSee [Changelog](CHANGELOG.md) document.\n\n## Further Development \n\n- [ ] add DOI\n- [ ] add conda install\n\n## See also \n\n- [wradlib](https://github.com/wradlib/wradlib):\n > An Open Source Library for Weather Radar Data Processing\n\n- [radproc](https://github.com/jkreklow/radproc):\n > A GIS-compatible Python-Package for automated RADOLAN Composite Processing and Analysis\n","has_starred","hub_user","immutable_tags_settings",{"_75":11,"_76":77},"enabled","rules",[78],".*","is_automated","permissions",{"_82":21,"_83":11,"_84":11},"read","write","admin","user","storage_size",1394565250,"orgData","recentTags",[91,128],{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":98,"_99":100,"_50":117,"_118":94,"_119":33,"_120":56,"_57":121,"_122":123,"_124":108,"_125":117,"_126":66,"_127":21},"content_type","creator",12752845,"full_size",702639964,"id",147799719,"images",[101],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":48,"_107":108,"_109":110,"_111":112,"_113":48,"_114":-5,"_115":96,"_63":66,"_116":-5},"architecture","amd64","digest","sha256:ac50d64d85d392e6f3598cd37d45635a65740bb7afd4578087319ee1f72ad177","features","last_pulled","2026-10-04T20:14:51.280207408Z","last_pushed","2021-11-02T16:56:22Z","os","linux","os_features","os_version","size","variant","2021-11-02T16:56:21.05438Z","last_updater","last_updater_username","media_type","latest","repository",12868944,"tag_last_pulled","tag_last_pushed","tag_status","v2",{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":129,"_99":130,"_50":132,"_118":94,"_119":33,"_120":56,"_57":133,"_122":123,"_124":108,"_125":132,"_126":66,"_127":21},175289365,[131],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":48,"_107":108,"_109":110,"_111":112,"_113":48,"_114":-5,"_115":96,"_63":66,"_116":-5},"2021-11-02T17:04:45.69169Z","0.7.0","sbxKitMetadata","isPotentialSpam","isHubSbxKitsEnabled","showSbxLogoOverride","sbxTrademarkText","displaySecurityMetadata","tagAttestations","tagsHaveAttestations",[],"selectedTag","attestationsUrl","routes/_layout.r.$namespace.$reponame.tags",{"_38":147,"_154":155,"_141":168,"_169":11},{"_40":148,"_42":149,"_45":46,"_47":48,"_49":11,"_50":51,"_52":53,"_54":150,"_57":35,"_32":33,"_58":59,"_60":44,"_61":62,"_63":64,"_65":66,"_67":-5,"_68":62,"_69":70,"_71":11,"_72":33,"_73":151,"_79":11,"_80":153,"_85":33,"_86":87},[],[44],[56],{"_75":11,"_76":152},[78],{"_82":21,"_83":11,"_84":11},"tags",{"_156":157,"_158":-5,"_159":-5,"_160":161},"count",2,"next","previous","results",[162,165],{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":129,"_99":163,"_50":132,"_118":94,"_119":33,"_120":56,"_57":133,"_122":123,"_124":108,"_125":132,"_126":66,"_127":21},[164],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":48,"_107":108,"_109":110,"_111":112,"_113":48,"_114":-5,"_115":96,"_63":66,"_116":-5},{"_92":44,"_93":94,"_95":96,"_97":98,"_99":166,"_50":117,"_118":94,"_119":33,"_120":56,"_57":121,"_122":123,"_124":108,"_125":117,"_126":66,"_127":21},[167],{"_102":103,"_104":105,"_106":48,"_107":108,"_109":110,"_111":112,"_113":48,"_114":-5,"_115":96,"_63":66,"_116":-5},[],"canDeleteTags","actionData","errors"]
