⁠About Skat

In short: Skat is a popular card game which is typically played with three people.

⁠Image Description

As there isn’t a really good Skat game for Windows, this image was created to provide a convenient way to play XSkat on Windows using Docker and tools like MobaXterm.

It is based on Ubuntu⁠ and includes the XSkat⁠ card game by Gunter Gerhardt.

⁠Tags

• 1.3, latest: Ubuntu 24.04, XSkat 4.0-10.
• 1.2: Ubuntu 23.10, XSkat 4.0-8, OpenSSH removed.
• 1.1: Ubuntu 23.04, XSkat 4.0-8.
• 1.0: Ubuntu 22.10, XSkat 4.0-8.

⁠Requirements

This image is intended to run on a client that provides an X server. On Linux systems, this typically means using a graphical desktop environment. On Windows, an X server such as Xming⁠, Cygwin/X⁠, or the [MobaXterm Personal Edition (https://mobaxterm.mobatek.net/⁠) can be used. Make sure that X forwarding is enabled.

⁠Running

Start your X server first and run this image using

  docker run --rm -it --env DISPLAY=<IP>:0.0 trinimon/xskat:latest /usr/games/xskat

afterwards. Here, IP is the IP address of your client and 0.0 is the display (which may vary).

If running on Linux, make sure to allow the container’s IP address to connect to your X server.

⁠Troubleshouting

The are a couple of reasons why the X forwarding might fail, for instance

• wrong client IP used
• firewall blocked traffic on the client
• wrong display and/or channel number exported
• X host not added
• window manager not configered for X11 connections⁠
• for some reason, it might be required to run the container as root on Linux
