waarlandit/mailtrash repository overview

A disposable e-mail server

No not the server is disposable but the e-mail is. :-)

What is Disposable Temporary E-mail? Disposable email - is a service that allows to receive email at a temporary address that self-destructed after a certain time elapses. It is also known by names like : tempmail, 10minutemail, throwaway email, fake-mail or trash-mail. Many forums, Wi-Fi owners, websites and blogs ask visitors to register before they can view content, post comments or download something. Temp-Mail - is most advanced throwaway email service that helps you avoid spam and stay safe.

Why this build?

Vishal Ghadage had build a simple solution in PHP that did the job but you needed to setup a mail server to get incomming mail and provide imap4 to the solution build by Vishal. What I did is just build a combination of Postfix, Dovecot and Apache with PHP in a single docker container. I use it at: https://mailtrash.eu

How to use it

Well, You need some configuration files:

  • domains : a text file with, one on every line, domain names you are going to use as your disposable mail domains.
  • frontend.template.php : The actual layout of the website, there is one included as an example.
  • logomail.png : Your logo, also there is an example included.

You need some volume mounts to get this going, a docker-compose.yml could look like:

version: '3.4'
services:
  mailtrash:
    image: waarland.it/mailtrash
    container_name: mailtrash
    volumes:
      - ./volume/spool:/var/mail
      - ./volume/domains:/etc/domains
      - ./volume/frontend.template.php:/var/www/frontend.template.php
      - ./volume/logomail.png:/var/www/logomail.png
    ports:
      - 0.0.0.0:25:25
      - 0.0.0.0:80:80
      - 127.0.0.1:143:143

I sugest to make a mail spool volume where the incomming mail is stored. The domains files needs to be created, without it won't work. frontend.template.php and logomail.png will be created on boot if you make the mount without the actual files.

Point the mx-records of the domains to the public ip of your host and it all should work.
