wellwelwel/desktop repository overview

🖥️ Ubuntu VPS Server with Remote Desktop

Default Ports

ssh: 22
rdp: 3389

Access
  • Just access with user root and password root by default
  • To set your password, create a file with the plain text password and mount to /root/.secret before compose it

Example of access
  • Remote Desktop Software

    Host: 127.0.0.1
    User: 'root'
    Password: 'root' # or your password in container file `/root/.secret`

    By default, most applications already have port 3389 set, if you have trouble accessing it, enter the port manually, like 127.0.0.1:3379

  • SSH

    ssh [email protected]
       # password: "root" or your password in container file `/root/.secret`

Compose Example
# docker-compose.yml

version: '3'
services:
   vps-xubuntu-desktop:
      image: wellwelwel/desktop:latest
      privileged: true
      restart: always
      ports:
         - '22:22' # SSH
         - '3389:3389' # RDP
      volumes:
         - ./.secret:/root/.secret:ro

Notes
  • 📦 Because it's a fully VPS Server with Desktop, the images are relatively large
  • 🖥️ Some free softwares for remote access:
    • Linux: Remmina
    • Windows: Microsoft Remote Desktop (Microsft Store)
    • Mac: Microsoft Remote Desktop (Apple Store)
  • 😉 Like every container, when you dismount it, all changes will be lost
    • If you install applications, change system settings, create a new image
      • You can use commit from an opened container or Build a new image from this

Important
  • ✅ This is a tool designed for testing purposes.
  • ❌ You can use it normally for production, knowing that it was not designed for that purpose, so beware!

Development
  • This repository has multiple steps:

    1. I pulled the image from wellwelwel/vps:latest

    2. With svps, I mounted with this setup:

      // @ts-check
      import { defineConfig } from 'svps';

      export default defineConfig({
         access: [
            {
               host: '127.0.0.1',
               username: 'root',
               password: 'root',
            },
         ],
         steps: {
            /** on */
            repare: true,
            apt: true,
            firewall: true,
            desktop: true,
            reboot: true,

            /** off */
            users: false,
            certificate: false,
            apache: false,
            docker: false,
            php: false,
            node: false,
            mysql: false,
            crontab: false,
            appendCommands: false,
         },
      });

    3. Already inside the Desktop, I ran a script to personalize the XFCE options: (see here)

    4. Lastly, I commit the opened container to build the final image 🐳
