⁠Introduction

Special thanks to the State of North Carolina, Central Regional Hospital in North Carolina, Matthew King and Joe Thurber for making the Dashboard code open source and available and to Christopher Edwards and Sam Habiel for making the creation of the Docker Image of WorldVistA EHR 3.0 containing the dashboard server code (wvdashboard) possible. There is also client software and a link for downloading and configuring it will be found below.

You need to install Docker first. Install is easiest on Windows 10 Professional, recent Macs, and any Linux. The machines should have virtualization activated in the BIOS or Docker will not install. If you don't have Windows 10 Professional or an older Mac (< 2012), you will need to use Docker Toolbox. It's less reliable, but worth a try. Your docker IP address is localhost if you run regular docker, or 192.168.99.100 on Docker Toolbox. Go here to get Docker. https://www.docker.com/community-edition⁠ and download and install docker.

⁠Run WorldVistA EHR

Run this first to download the WorldVistA EHR/Dashboard docker image. This will require several minutes before the system completes the setup. On a faster Internet connection, it should take about 1-2 minutes.

docker run -d -p 2222:22 -p 8001:8001 -p 8080:8080 -p 9430:9430 --name=wvdashboard worldvista/wvdashboard

Once it is done, wait 10 seconds. Then, To get into roll and scroll, type

docker exec -it wvdashboard su - wvdashboard -c 'mumps -r ZU'*

If that fails, you can ssh into the environment, like this:

ssh -p 2222  wvdashboardtied@localhost 

Password is tied.

On Windows Win 10 release, there is a command line ssh. You have to access the container using an SSH client such as PuTTY by using the address as described in the note above and using the correct port 2222 for container install. PuTTY can be found here: https://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/latest.html⁠

The login credentials are below in a table.

Programmer (i.e. Direct) mode can be reached using either: docker exec -it wvdashboard su - wvdashboard -c 'mumps -dir' or ssh -p 2222 wvprog@localhost with password prog.

To get into the Linux instance as root ssh -p 2222 root@localhost password is docker

⁠CPRS and Dashboard Files for WorldVistA EHR

Unzip and it will contain a VistA to be put in C:\Program Files (x86) directory and then make a shortcut to the C:\Program Files (x86)\VistA\CPRS\Beta-WVEHR-CPRSChart1.0.30.16-20181021.exe by right clicking on the file and choosing Create Shortcut. You will probably be asked to put it on the Desktop. Right click on the Desktop Shortcut you created and choose Properties. At the end of the target line in Properties, put S= followed by the IP of the host machine for the server portion of VistA followed by the P=9430 CCOW=disable and the optional showrpcs

For instance, you might have this on the target line for the shortcut (this is all on one line in the shortcut properties):

"C:\Program Files (x86)\VistA\CPRS\Beta-WVEHR-CPRSChart1.0.30.16-20181021.exe" S=192.168.0.97 P=9430 CCOW=disable showrpcs

In the Dashboard subdirectory of VistA, make shortcuts to those exes as well and put the S=[IP of the server with the docker image on it] P=9430 in the Target line found in the Properties section of the shortcut that is shown when you right click.

⁠Docker WorldVistA EHR Container Management

To stop the container, type “docker stop wvdashboard” without the quotes. To restart the container, type “docker restart wvdashboard”. Any changes you made will still be there. To delete the container, type “docker rm wvdashboard”. You will lose all your data. To delete the downloaded image, type “docker rmi wvdashboard”. If you do docker run... again, you will have to download it again.
