wso2/micro-integrator repository overview

DEPRECATION NOTICE

This repository is discontinued in the favor of wso2/wso2mi since the version of 1.2.0-m3.

Quick reference

About WSO2 Micro Integrator

WSO2 Micro integrator is an open-source, lightweight, fast, scalable, and distributed microservice integration layer which is the cloud-native distribution of WSO2 Enterprise Integration (EI)

WSO2 Micro Integrator is built for developers who would like to integrate microservices and cloud native architectures using a configuration-driven approach. The Micro Integrator gives developers the best possible experience for developing, testing, and deploying integrations and tooling.

The Micro integrator developer experience is specially tuned for,

  • Integration developers who prefer configuration-driven approach.
  • People who are looking for a solution to make their brownfield (ie. legacy systems) integrated into their new microservices based solutions.
  • Existing WSO2 EI and integration middleware users who want to move into cloud native or Micro services architecture.

The Micro Integrator also provides an enhanced experience for those using a container-based architecture. It works natively on the Kubernetes ecosystem and makes deployment with Docker a simple process. Following are the main design objectives for developing the Micro Integrator.

  • Lightweight and optimized runtime based on the same integration runtime of EI.
  • Native support for Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Flawless developer experience for developing, testing and deploying integrations and tooling.
  • Integrate natively with cloud-native ecosystem projects.
  • Building a runtime suitable for hybrid integration requirements (integration cloud).

How to use this image.

Start a Micro Integrator instance

The following command starts a Linux Ubuntu-based Micro Integrator Docker image.

$ docker run -it -p 8290:8290 -p 8253:8253 --name micro-integrator wso2/micro-integrator:1.x.x

Here, ports 8290 and 8253 have been mapped to the corresponding Docker host (host machine on top of which containers are spawned) ports.

Container shell access and viewing server logs

Assuming you have started a Docker container instance of Micro Integrator profile as instructed in the previous section Start a Micro Integrator instance,

  • The Micro Integrator server log is available through Docker's container log:
$ docker logs micro-integrator
  • The Docker exec command allows you to run commands inside a Docker container. The following command line will give you a bash shell inside the container you created:
$ docker exec -it micro-integrator sh

Pass arguments during server startup

Running in debug mode

To start a Docker container instance of the Micro Integrator in debug mode (assuming 5005 to be the remote debugging port), use the following command:

$ docker run -it -p 8290:8290 -p 8253:8253 -p 5005:5005 --name another-micro-integrator wso2/micro-integrator:1.x.x -debug 5005

Examples

Documentation on Running MI in Docker helps you get started on a simple Hello World project.
